2. Commander Doucet and Vice Commander Rick O'Brien and Past Commander Tigerman Allen scheduled meeting for increased benefits with Secertary of Veterans Affairs, Lane Carson. April 16, representatives from Congressman Miley, Senator Cassisy and Senator Vitters office will discuss program for small businesses and higher education for Purple Heart receipents.
3. Vice Commander Rick O'Brien contacted Janet Broussard , President of Blue Star Mothers to assist with beneifts for surviving spouses. Janet has linked to our web-site to inform, educate and assist spouses with their beneifts. Commander Doucet will speak at their next scheduled meeting to offer additional assistance.
4. Commander Doucet assigned Patriot O'Brien to attend VA Job fair to ensure that Veterans Preference was being followed. Patriot O'Brien submitted job resumes to Federal and State Agencies to check to see if regester is being open. Patriot O'Brien will report back to Commander on outcome.
5. April 24, 2008 - Tigerman present Purple Heart Outstanding Achievement Award to Airforce ROTC Outstanding Cadet at Louisiana State University.
6. May 16, 2008 Commander Doucet was inivted by Governor Jindal to participate in the support of Patriot Mike MacNaughty for his upcoming race to support wounded vets. Purple Heart Chapter presented a check to Mike in support.
7. Vice Commander O'Brien and Tiggerman represented Chapter 177 at Purple Heart State Convention. Tiggerman read accomplishment for 2007 that were accomplished under His command. Dewey Davis made a presentation concerning patriotism in Louisiana Schools.
8. Commander Doucet and Vice Commander O'Brien assisted a National Guard Veteran (Jeff Ayers). Jeff was wounded in Afgan and was in need of medical attention, Jeff Ayers, had been waiting 2 years for mental help with PTS. Jeff name was given to Roy Kellum who lives in Jeff's area. (Covington).
9. May 20 , Commander Doucet and Vice Commander O'Brien have a meeting with Secretary Carson and Labor Seceratry to discuss small business loans and contract bidding for disabled veterans. Disabled veterans are guarented sba loans and contracts according to law.
10. Vice Commander O'Brien , State Chief of Staff William Allen , Patriot Harvey Davis and Patritot Royce Hymel were present at the city of Zachary School Board Meeting to present Principle Dewey Davis with Honorary Membership into Chapter 177. Principle Davis recieved a standing ovation from School Superintendent Drake and all School Board members and audience for his service to the Military Order of Purple Heart.
11. May 30, Vice Commander O'Brien , Chief of Staff William Allen and Patriot Pat Almond opened Senator Vitters' Town Hall Meeting in Livingstion with the Pledge of Allegiance.
